Dark Sky West Marin - A Walk in the Dark for Teens, Richard Vacha
“A Walk in the Dark” with Tracker Richard Vacha
Gather at 8:00 pm – Friday, April 25th
Bear Valley Visitor Center – Picnic Area
1 Bear Valley Visitor Center Access Road, Point Reyes National Seashore, CA 94956
Can you see in the Dark? What senses besides vision are used to "see" in the dark?
What becomes more apparent as you walk in the darkness?
What else can you "see"?
Find out on Friday April 25th at 8 PM with Tracker Richard Vacha.
DARKNESS is a great ally and teacher for anyone interested in being comfortable in nature and learning to fully use our senses.
We will practice the art of movement on the landscape with limited vision.
We will practice understanding and learning to love darkness and why darkness can enhance our "wide angle" vision, why animals and insects need darkness and why darkness is critical to see and save our place in the Milky Way.
We will not use flashlights.
Richard Vacha has been studying animal tracking for 30 years, and has been teaching animal tracking and nature awareness for 15 years, manages the Point Reyes Tracking School and Marin Tracking Club and has authored a collection of essays in his philosophical book, “The Heart of Tracking”. He is a Class III internationally certified tracker.
Space is limited to 15 teenagers and 5 adults.
Reservations are just $1 to support Dark Sky West Marin.
Note: for safety, one adult must accompany every 3 teens.
Thank you for being an important part of International Dark Sky Week!
